Welcome from our Academy Head

Welcome from the Academy Head - Sam McCarthy-Patmore:
Ilsington is one of the largest parishes in the country due to the size of the area it covers. However, most of the population lives in only about 2% of the area and the school is located in the centre of Ilsington Village opposite St Michael’s Church.

The village is a thriving and well supported community with a local pub, village hall, community run village shop and a community bus. The school benefits from these facilities and during term time has ownership of the community bus. The school also uses the village hall for PE and drama activities and has a weekly assembly in the church. The school also have an extremely well developed Forest School site that gets used on a weekly basis and a large playing field.

There is an additional village playing field with tennis courts, playground and skate park situated in the village.

Ilsington Village is full of history; the church dates back to the 12th Century and it has a history of tin working and mining stretching from the 14th to 20th century. All these natural resources on our doorstep along with the natural history and geography of Dartmoor make this a wonderful environment in which to teach and live.
