Diversity

At Ilsington CE Primary School we welcome people of all faiths and none. the culture of our school is inclusive and encourages diversity. Our children learn about people of other cultures and religions and welcome difference as a part of the world's rich tapestry.

As a Christian school we strive to be inclusive, diverse and to encourage all those in our school community to feel a sense of belonging.

"I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb".
Revelation 7-9
At Ilsington CE Primary School our children learn to value the culture and beliefs of people in other parts of the world. Our pupils understand the need to be able to see the bigger picture and to learn about the lives and works of people around the world. We regularly use LFYTA resources to bring the wider world into our classrooms.
At Ilsington, our children learn about the importance of both equity and diversity.
Children of all ages understand that individuals may need different support and resources to allow them to succeed and have taken time to unpack these concepts.
You might like to follow the video link below this text box, to watch the video shared with our children as we discussed the importance of there being diversity within our society and an understanding of how we are all different and special in the eyes of God.

We discussed the importance of neuro diverse people such as Alan Turin, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Einstein as well as Andy Warhol, Ingvar Kamprad (IKEA) and discussed how the world needs people who can think outside of the box to help it to find solutions to problems and to come up with unique new ideas. Our celebration and discussion around the importance of diversity within our school and in the wider world is ongoing.

Whilst Ilsington is a small rural school on Dartmoor, we endeavour to encourage our children to see the bigger picture and to provide multiple opportunities for children to learn more about the wider opportunities the world present. Our children enjoy half termly "virtual visits" to different parts of the world and spend time learning about the different foods, geography. cultures and customs of countries around the globe.
