Woodhouse Pre-School

Our Team

We have a qualified team with a wide range of knowledge and skills, who have trained and have experience in the care and education of pre-school aged children.

Each child will have a key worker and this member of staff will work closely with the child and their family.

Our goal is to provide a happy, secure and nurturing environment in which children can take their first steps in education and socialising away from home.

Please use our 'Register of Interest' form to let us know the sessions you would like your child to attend at the pre-school.

Welcome to Woodhouse Pre-School!

Where the magic happens!

Woodhouse Pre-School is situated within Ilsington C of E Primary School, in the friendly village of Ilsington, on the edge of Dartmoor

Our beautiful, newly, built EYFS unit provides our children with a spacious, light and airy setting where we are able to provide continuous access to outside learning spaces in all weathers. We also benefit from access to the school’s outdoor facilities including the playground, large field and pond area.

Transition flows smoothly and naturally between pre-school and the Reception class as we work as a blended EYFS unit, with children mixing across the setting. Children in our pre-school begin to learn Phase One phonics  using the Bug club scheme which supports their phonics knowledge as they move up into primary.

Older children from the primary classes spend time with our pre-school children sharing books and activities together and further supporting EYFS transition into primary. We also take part in whole school occasions such as sports day and charitable events such as Children in Need. We really enjoy opportunities to spend time in Woodland school with our friends in the primary too.

Funding
We have funded and non-funded spaces available for children from the age of 2.

All children are eligible for 15 hour funding from the term after their third birthday. We also accept 2 year old funding and extended 30 hour funding for 3 and 4 year olds.

Our Day
We are open:

Monday – Friday (term time only)

Sessions available are:

9:00am – 3:30pm
9:00am – 12:15pm
9:00am – 1:15pm if you would like your child to stay for lunch

What we do
We plan a wide range of different activities and topics for each term and follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. The emphasis is on learning through play and having fun!

Your child will be given the opportunity to experience climbing and sliding, music making, food tasting, painting, drawing, reading, storytelling, bug hunting, pond dipping, dancing, games, sand and water play, baking, dressing up, craft, junk modelling, building and construction, role-play and exploring the local area including our Outdoor Learning woodlands!

Parents / Carers
We recognise that you are the primary educators of your children and therefore it’s incredibly important for parents, carers and pre-school staff to work together to help your child feel confident, happy and secure within the group.

We welcome you and your child to join us for a taster session at any time to come along and see what we get up to.

The children have enjoyed making papier-mâché volcanoes we used one for the Dino swamp and the other we made erupt using vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. Mrs Harrod added the ingredients together very slowly with a little success, however with lots of encouragement from the children to add 'lots and lots' Mrs Harrod created an equal impressive eruption of lava and molten rock.
The pre-school staff always set up wonderful activities. The children have been this using this sparkly cobweb to develop their fine motor skills.
